Research. What is it? What do we use it for? Where do we go to access it? Do you ever ask yourself these questions? Well, I did. And still do. All the time. The answers are endless. Your options are unlimited. So I decided to start a blog about research. (Well, sort of.) I will try to explain.
When I started writing, I had many questions. Where do I find information on my topics? Who do I get help from? I could go on and fill the page with questions, but I will save that for another blog. Now that I am published, I still have questions. Probably more than I did in the beginning of my writing career.
People often ask me where I get my ideas from. Honestly, most of the story lines originate from a single scene that progresses into a story. More often than not, it takes a lot of tweaking, twisting, and deleting before the story is solid. But for me, it generally starts with a scene that pops into my head. That scene can come from anywhere. A dream, something I see while driving, a conversation (mine or an overheard one), a picture, a story, etc. In some twisted way, all of those sources are research. So, I am putting together a blog that will dig deeper into the world of “research”.
For those looking to branch out into the writing world, I will try to give you information you have been searching for. I hope that it will help you along your path to publication. My personal experiences have taught me where I did not do enough research, and where I went into overkill. But really, you cannot do too much research. My opinion. I hope that my lessons learned can help at least one person get to where they want to be with their writing.
And for those that are here just for fun, that’s where all of my exciting research comes into play. You know, those crazy weekends with my assistant and best friends, concerts, drinks with the girls (even if it is via text 🙂 I’ll explain one day), family vacations, trips to the beach, airplane rides, and simply every day life. Those are the reasons that I say, “It’s all about the research”.
So if you are looking for answers to the writing world, or you just want to have a little fun, stay tuned. I hope to keep you entertained.
