Pelican Tales – Louisiana Author / Reader Event

Louisiana – a place you can’t just read about, you must experience to grasp its mysteries. One must see the moss hanging from the trees like a heroine’s hair flowing in the wind. Smell the bayou as Jean Lafitte plotted each bend to find the right location to bury his secret booty. Traipse through the historical and cultural events that formed this area. Explore the wildlife habitats and estuaries of Creole Nature Trail. Gasp in awe (or terror) when you come face-to-face with a territorial alligator. Savor the spicy authentic Cajun cooking that we thrive on (gumbo, etouffee, and crawfish to name a few) Imagine the characters of your next books flourishing in this awesome setting. My, the adventures in store for them!

October 14, 2017, Lake Charles, LA is having a multi-genre author signing, author / reader event, author meet and greet, … Whatever you call it, that’s what we are bringing to you. 2016_10_07-linda-joyce-pictureMeet the lovely Linda Joyce. When I say lovely, I mean it in every sense. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her in an author and non-author atmosphere. She is enlightening, engaging, and brings a smile to my face. Such a delight to be around. If you have not read her books yet, you are at a loss. Linda brings her characters to life and her writing style surrounds you, placing you in the setting and feel of her stories. Please welcome her, and show her some love.

I’m going to start with one of my favorite books of Linda’s. This book touched me in many ways. At the time I read it, Linda and I had not met, but I felt as if the words she wrote were for me. This book contributed to my healing at a very rough time in my life. I’m positive that when you read this book, you will be touched.

About Linda:

Writing in the bleachers of a mostly bare playground in Japan where girls lined up to read pages gave award-winning author Linda Joyce “writing fever.” Before her foray into authorship, she graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Management, then spent her next years in corporate America. Her debut romance novel, Bayou Born is a 2014 RONE Award finalist. Her second novel, Bayou Bound won 1st Place in Romance from the Southeastern Writers Association.

Linda also writes short stories and poetry. She’s most proud of Arctic Arkansas published by Missouri Writer’s Guild in Storm Country: The Anthology, which raised money for the Joplin School District after a F4 tornado wiped out the town, and her poem, True American Music featured in by the Johnson County Historical Society with the Smithsonian’s traveling exhibit: With New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music. She served as the Vice President of Whispering Prairie Press and the Creative Director for Kansas City Voices, a literary magazine.

Linda’s Cajun roots intertwine with her Asian ones. She graduated with a business degree from the University of Florida, where she met and married her husband. They reside in Atlanta. She’s an avid traveler, foodie, music fan, and dog lover with three four-legged boys, General Beauregard, Gentleman Jack (RIP) and Masterpiece Renoir (RIP). Linda is a member of Romance Writers of America, Georgia Romance Writers, Atlanta Writer’s Club, and Southern Writers Association. She enjoys speaking about writing and has presented workshops at the Writer’s Academy at West Texas A&M University, WWP Conference and RWA Nationals.

Thank you, Linda for being with us today!

Fabulous Author Friday – Eden Butler

2016_08_26 Eden Butler picture

Welcome Eden Butler!                                                                   Dream big. Work harder.

Eden does both. She dreams big and chases after those dreams by working hard every day. You can feel her dedication and love of writing through the settings and characters in her books. Pick one up today and you will understand.

**** A moment of prayers and positive thoughts for our friend. I’m sure you all recall the recent flooding in Louisiana. Well, Eden was caught up in that mess. Here’s hoping for a good end result.

I’ve Seen You Naked and Didn’t Laugh: A Geeky Love Story

Eden’s newest release is up for Pre-Order on Amazon. This book sounds hilarious. I cannot wait to get my order!2016_08_26 Eden Butler - I've Seen You Naked... cover 2

Raine Quinn was a huge disappointment to her haters. She wasn’t supposed to make it out of Waco, TX. She wasn’t supposed to land even one acting job. And she sure as hell wasn’t supposed to fall in love with her best friend.

Will Callahan liked to call himself the younger, hotter Shatner, minus the ham acting and distracting toupee. He loved everything comics, he loved playing the hero of the beloved, defunct space western, AURA and he loved his best damn friend, Raine Quinn.

Raine and Will shot up the Hollyweird ranks together. They became stars, Geek legends and over the years, family. But one night, with the meddling of their dearly departed friend, too many shots and too much time reminiscing, Raine and Will cross a line…and it’s one they can’t jump back over.

A little about Eden:

Eden Butler is an editor and writer of Fantasy, Mystery and Contemporary Romance novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum.

When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden patiently waits for her Hogwarts letter, edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.

She is currently living under teenage rule alongside her husband in southeast Louisiana.

Freedom and dignity for all!

Port HudsonPort Hudson, LA was only one of many battlefields along the Mississippi River during the Civil War Era. The siege of Port Hudson (May 22 – July 9, 1863) was the final engagement in the Union campaign to liberate the Mississippi in the Civil War. At Port Hudson, Fort Desperate was the location of one of the bloodiest battles of that time. Soldiers were deserting their posts due to unbearable living conditions and lack of leadership quality from their commanders.

Today you can visit the Port Hudson State Historical Site and tour the museum, listen to stories from times past, view Civil War artifacts, and walk along some of the same trails the soldiers walked along.

Walking through the dense woods and reading the informative plaques, I could picture some of the battles that took place there. Deep ravines where men fought to their death. Their wives and children waiting for news, any news, of their loved ones whereabouts and health. You see, it was not uncommon for these soldiers to find their death due to malnutrition, heat stroke, or battle wounds.

The topography of the land has been well preserved by the Port Hudson State Historical Site. Most of the area has been untouched by human hands. Nature has done her duty to protect these grounds. Knowing the area was as it was in those days, I could visualize men digging their way through the tangled vines and the thick undergrowth. Their horrified screams echo against the Live Oak and Sycamore trees. The still air hung with the scent of old blood.

In my tennis shoes, shorts, and short sleeve shirt, I trudged through the trees in the sweltering heat. Hot, sticky, muggy Louisiana heat. Sweat rolled down my back. Yes, it was hot. But I knew that at the end of my walk I would feel the comfort of cool air from my air conditioned car. These men didn’t have that privilege. No, they fought in this heat in their thick wool uniforms without the comforts we often take for granted. And the fighting and discomforts went on for days and days.

This tour and many others like it, are reminders of the sacrifices these soldiers made for all American’s freedom. Let’s never forget what these men have done for us. Freedom and dignity for all!
